About Me
Hi, and welcome to U-gen Chronicle.
I’m Abem, a Japanese engineer, father, and occasional wanderer of cultural curiosities.
After living in the U.S. for several years, I returned to Japan with a new lens — seeing my own country with the eyes of both an insider and an outsider.
This blog is my quiet corner on the web, where I share reflections on daily life in Japan:
from parenting and local customs, to technical oddities and language quirks that might not be found in guidebooks or YouTube videos.
I’m fascinated by the things that lie in between:
the unspoken rules, the beautifully inefficient, the subtly spiritual —
in other words, the essence of what we sometimes call “U-gen” (幽玄), a kind of subtle profundity.
Whether you’re a traveler, a Japanophile, or just someone who enjoys a different perspective on everyday life —
I’m glad you’re here. Let’s explore the beauty in the shadows, the logic in tradition, and the small sparks of insight hiding in the quiet.
Thank you for reading,
Abem
